We pride ourselves at Eridge for presenting the best going possible. Last year saw a slight blip in our record over the last 22 years with the show jumping area having slightly too much give in the ground due to the appaling wet spring and the rain in June when some 18 other events were cancelled! As a result the tractors could not get on until a gap in the weather which eventually came a week before the horse trials last year and due to the incredibly thick grass cover meant that the ground did not dry out quite enough in time to give the perfect going. However all this has been rectified with this year seeing the return of sheep grazing in the main show jumping area and not set aside for hay.
As those who have been to Eridge before know the event is run over old parkland uncompacted turf and like every year when dry we will be aerating with specialised machinery all the tracks and areas prior to the event. Additionally we will be spreading tons of sand courtesy of our sponsor Day Agregate Ltd on the take offs, landings and any other areas which might be in need.
Riders have always praised and appreciated this event for the huge amount of effort the team put in to the groundwork and that is why they always come back. This year will be no different even if this dry spell does continue for we are pretty used to dry conditions in July and will always do as much as we physically and financially can do to maintain our reputation.
For all those thinking of entering for the first time don’t just take our word as the organisers but speak to other competitors who know this event!
